8 Essential Brain Foods for Your Kids


Good nutrition is critical in your child’s brain development.  Food does not just simply help build a better brain but it also affects your child’s ability to learn and focus in school.  So whether your kid is having attention problems or you just want to boost your child’s brain, it is very important to feed them the following “brain foods.”

1. Eggs

We all know that Eggs are great protein source but did you know that it can boost your child’s memory too?  Yes, Choline, a vitamin-like substance found in eggs help produce memory stem cells.  So the more memory cells they have, the sharper your child memory becomes.

2. Whole Grains

Whether it’s whole grain bread, crackers or tortilla, this fiber-rich food is a good source of B Vitamins that are also essential in memory cell production and have been shown to improve alertness.

3. Oatmeal

Oats are loaded with fiber and good sources of Vitamins E, B, Potassium and Zinc.  It doesn’t just give energy to your child but also provides fuel for the brain.  Serving oats for breakfast will definitely make your kid’s body and brain functioning in full capacity.

4. Berries

Top your oatmeal with strawberries and blueberries to enhance their brain function even more.  Certain studies show that these antioxidant-rich berries help boost cognitive functioning.  They are also rich in Vitamin C and help prevent Cancer.

5. Fish

Encourage your child to eat Salmon, Tuna or Sardines because these fishies are good sources of Vitamin D and Omega 3s that prevent decline mental skills and memory loss.  Make it kid-friendly by serving tuna sandwiches or offer your child some dipping sauces of their choice.  It’s the perfect dinner option for the whole family too.

6. Nuts and Seeds

Peanut butter, sunflower seeds, almond butter – these nuts and seeds are rich in Folate, Vitamin E and Selenium that can boost your little one’s mood and brain function.

7. Beef

Yes, those burgers, meatballs and steak are doing good for your child’s overall brain d.  You see, lean beef is a very good source of iron and packs plenty of zinc.  Iron will help your kids stay energized and alert in school while Zinc is great for memory.

8. Kale and Spinach

Of course, we will never forget the daily greens.  As much as your child hates green leafy vegetables, these greens are rich in folate, vitamins and antioxidants that help produce new brain cells.

Now that it’s almost back to school, make sure that you add these brain-boosting foods in their diet.  You’ll never know, your child might just be the next Albert Einstein.
