6 healthy Foods to be added in Your Diet for Acne for Best Results

There’s a saying that goes a little something like, “Beauty starts from within”. Could this be made to apply in cases where skincare is concerned? Can the things that enter your body affect the way it looks on the outside? Dermatologist Doctor Francesca Fusco seems to think so. She does, however, admit that this topic had mixed results when studies were conducted on it. Anthropologist Loren Cordain has backed up this belief. Cordain has pointed out that in a study conducted on Inuit Indians, it was found that they only started to manifest signs of troubled skin such as acne when their diets were introduced to processed food. Whatever the studies show, eating healthy cannot only benefit the way your skin looks, but it can also positively affect your overall health in the long run.

Some doctors have ruled in the affirmative. Apparently there is certain food and food groups that we need to consume more often and certain food that we should try to avoid. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, the author of the book Forever Young, believes that one should avoid coffee, margarine or any food that is either starchy or fried and food that has high sugar content and trans fat. He believes that there is a correlation between the rise in our blood sugar and insulin levels and acne breakouts. So now that we know which food to avoid, which food should we consume more of?

1. Grapes

Good news everyone, compounds found in grapes and red wine are known to combat acne. Before you start thinking that this is just an excuse to start day drinking, think again. Resveratrol, an ingredient found it grapes and red wine is apparently an extremely effective antioxidant. This stuff has apparently very strong antimicrobial properties.

2. Garlic

Allicin, a chemical found in garlic, is a very potent anti-inflammatory. Allicin can apparently combat germs, bacteria and any virus your body is fighting. Garlic could lessen the inflammation of your current acne breakout.

3. Turmeric

This yellow spice could be the best way to get rid of acne. It originates from Indian and Chinese herbal medicine. Turmeric is not only a great anti-inflammatory it can also fight free radicals. Sure, you can find this in curry, but the best way to consume turmeric to combat zits is by using fresh turmeric. If you are lucky enough to find one near you, then you should put this in a juicer and mix in some lemon and ginger as well. You can drink this mixture as you would a shot of tequila. But if you can only find turmeric powder, then mixing this in with dishes you are cooking is probably a good idea. It not only spices up your meals, but it can also help your acne problem.

4. Avocado

Avocados are rich in Vitamin E and Vitamin C. This is pretty simple to figure out. Vitamin E is a great and natural moisturizer it is also a popular anti-aging ingredient. Vitamin C can fight the germs and bacteria that may be causing havoc on your skin. Vitamin C is an effective anti-inflammatory as well.

5. Fish

This isn’t to say that all sorts of fish can be considered good for fighting pimples. Only fish rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 can fight inflammation. These fatty acids cannot only combat inflammation they can also reduce stress levels of chemicals as well. Consume fatty and cold water fish such as herring, anchovies, salmon, and sardines.

6. Brown rice

If you are already eating white rice, then maybe it is time to switch it up by consuming brown rice instead. But if you’re more of a bread person, then you should put that down and start substituting it with brown rice instead. Brown rice is full of protein, magnesium, and Vitamin B. It is also filled with antioxidants. Vitamin B can help regulate and calm down hormones. And we all know how much havoc hormones can wreck on our skin.

Aside from eating healthy to get clearer skin, you also do wonders for your general wellbeing and health. So it’s like hitting two birds with one stone. As Doctor Francesca Fusco has pointed out “What is good for the body is good for the skin”. So just think about that the next time you decide to eat out at a fast food joint. No amount of expensive toners, cleansers and creams can substitute for a healthy and well-balanced diet.
