Test X180 Ignite – a Worthless Supplement

I got a marketing email (aka, SPAM) which described a product called Test X180 Ignite, which is supposed to help you burn fat, build muscle and increase libido by increasing your testosterone levels and promoting a healthy blood flow. The claims were absolutely glowing, which made me decide to do some fact-checking.

A preliminary search showed hundreds of endorsements, many even ranking highly for the keyword “scam,” which is nowadays a Big Red Flag. This is a sign of an MLM scam where the recruits are instructed to try for high SEO ranking for the keywords “scam,” “fraud,” etc. associated with the product name.

So, I did some more digging…

And guess what I found: A lawsuit has been filed against Force Factor for its sale of the Test X180 line.

According to the complaint, these claims are materially false and misleading because the ingredients contained in the product hasve zero effect on increasing the testosterone levels.  The complainant cited that Fenugreek, the main “active” ingredient of this supplement, is just a placebo.

A little background on Fenugreek – it’s actually a white-flowered herbaceous plant with aromatic seeds that are commonly used in Indian dishes and a few other cuisines.  But there is no compelling clinical evidence that the “French Hay” (basically a form of grass) has any medicinal value at all.

If you are looking for ways to increase your testosterone to improve your physique and sexual health, don’t fall for this “Test X180 Ignite” rip-off. Instead, opt for other cheaper and more effective ways to boost your libido, mainly by simply improving your overall health.

Limit sugar intake

This is the most important thing to do if you are over 50 and your libido is sagging. This is especially important if you have been fooled by the extremely unhealthy low-fat dietary fad. Poorly-controlled blood sugar cause by high-carbohydrate diet can lead to a lot of health problems, including problems with testosterone levels.  In fact, the main cause of impotence and lack of libido in men after age 50 is too much sugar and starch in the diet.  Acquiring Type 2 Diabetes can even furthermore destroy your testosterone production.  So if you want to save those T’s, avoid simple sugars such as white table sugar and sweetened beverages with high-fructose corn syrup.

If you are over 50, and suffer from erectile dysfunction, the first thing to check is your blood sugar. ED is a leading indicator of pre-diabetes and diabetes. Current clinical guidelines use 127 as the cutoff for blood sugar problems, but a more reasonable limit is 100 or less for fasting glucose (I keep mine under 95).

Magnesium is a mineral that is vital to the body’s overall function.  It keeps blood pressure normal, heart rhythm steady, kidneys functioning well and bones strong; at the same time, it plays an important role in testosterone production.

Although it’s present in many food products, studies show that most Americans still lack sufficient amounts of magnesium in their diet.  One cheap and most bioavailable form is Epsom salt which can be absorbed through the skin by soaking in an Epsom salt bath.  It can also be taken orally, but it tastes really awful to most people. Major yuck-factor, and it is nearly impossible to disguise that horrible taste.  Aside from this and other supplements containing magnesium, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds are usually rich sources. I say “usually” because that’s not a guarantee, owing to the fact that modern agriculture (at least in the US) resembles strip-mining more closely than it does farming.

The cheapest form of magnesium you can get is “milk of magnesia.” However that is not very bioavailable, and it’s best to get a supplement that has the word “chelated” in the description.

Just as an aside, if you grow your own vegetables, using a bit of Epsom salt in the water will make them grow faster & bigger. And more nutritious!

L-arginine is an amino acid that is thought to reduce blood pressure, improve kidney function and boost the body’s production of NO (nitrous oxide), which can have a slight positive effect on libido by boosting the effects of testosterone. It’s a reasonably inexpensive supplement, but also plentiful in red meat, poultry and dairy products. You probably get enough of this already, unless you suffer from the eating disorder known as “veganism.”

Boron is a mineral that helps the body to build strong bones, treat osteoarthritis, form muscles and increase the testosterone levels.  It is found in food and the environment but taking supplements is also a good way to incorporate more boron into your diet.  Some good sources of boron are Brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts, avocados, chick peas, prunes and raisins. Again, it’s possible to be short on boron because of the excesses of modern agriculture.

Here is the source I use for many of my vitamin and mineral supplements, and they are currently (through June 2016) running a special for new Customers Only: $10 off an order of $40+ or $5 off any order under $40 at Piping Rock Vitamins. Enter code: NEWDEAL10 at checkout. Expires: 6.30.16
