Some diets and exercise programs are based on the simple notion of losing X amount of pounds. However, brides tend to have more targeted goals than losing pounds. When getting in shape for your wedding day, your goal should be to look exactly the way you want — whether that’s having toned arms or a trim waist — rather than weighing a certain number.

Still, with so many women taking to the gym before their weddings, many still aren’t fitting into their dresses — Why? They’re losing too much weight. Another common issue of losing too much weight is the ring. Some women forget about making sure their engagement rings fit, but as you lose weight, your hands will as well causing your ring to slip from your finger. This doesn’t mean you need to stop working out. Make sure that if you are planning a big diet before the big day that you have plenty of dress fittings scheduled all the way up to a week before the date. Diet and Exercise – The Keys to Success

It is a well-known fact that diet and exercise are the answers to weight loss problems. You might be tempted to look for gimmicks and other ways to address the problem, but that is hardly the case.

The first thing to do is to choose a source of exercise. You may have a gym membership already, some home equipment or a park nearby. If you don’t have easy access to a workout facility, don’t fret. There are many great ways to exercise without breaking the bank:

  • Find a friend! Not only is this great for motivation, but you can do something together to get on a schedule, consider signing up for a sports league or walking your dogs on a regular basis.
  • Find a piece of equipment. You don’t need a piece of exercise equipment with four digits on its price tag. For instance, a heavy bag can be a fun answer to cardiovascular and aerobic exercise.

Once you settle on a means of exercise, it’s time to clean up your diet. Avoiding restaurants, processed foods and other “common sense” items is essential. Look to fruits, vegetables and whole grains to build a successful diet. Replace less-than-optimal foods with healthier ones. For instance, healthy nuts instead of potato chips are a great swap for a snack.

The True Test

For most who want to get ready for the big day — or anyone who starts a diet/exercise program — there is a big test that takes place. It doesn’t consist of determining which exercise method is better than the other, whether this or that snack is healthier, and whether you work out four or five days a week — it’s all about execution.

Find ways to motivate yourself. Give yourself minor rewards in the dieting department, but be aware that motivation, consistency and determination will help you meet your goals.

Get an exercise partner. Put a photo of you in your wedding dress on the fridge. Record your weight each morning. All of your hard work will all be worth it as you walk down the aisle in front of your friends and family.
