Top 5 Tips for a Healthy Summer


Summer is always a great time for us to relax, enjoy great company and have endless fun with friends and family under the warm sunshine.  However, it also brings the temptations of careless eating, overdoing the tan and ditching exercise.

So before the season officially changes, read up and take note of these 5 tips to make sure your health’s in check all summer long.

1. Protect your skin.

Aside from going easy on the tanning, make sure you apply sunscreen before you step out of your house – whether you’re just running errands.  Sunscreen isn’t just for the beach FYI.  Use a sunscreen that’s at least SPF 45 or higher and make sure it’s water resistant since you might be sweating a lot during the hot summer months.

2. Stay hydrated.

Extreme sun exposure can leave your body dehydrated.  So make sure you drink at least 8 to 9 glasses of water a day.  Get yourself a water bottle and make sure to bring it with you wherever you go.  If you’re bored with plain water, here are 5 creative ways to drink your liquids.

3. Get fit outdoors.

Take advantage of the warm weather to enjoy nature more and bring your workouts outdoors.  There are so many ways to stay active during the summer, who says you have to hide those running shoes and workout gear?  Just don’t forget to protect your skin while working out under the sun.

4. Snack healthy.

Whether you’re at the pool, beach or wherever, it seems so hard to resist munching on unhealthy snacks… and let’s not forget the temptations of seeking out the nearest ice cream stand to beat the summer heat.  So before you put a damper on your diet, fill your fridge, pantry and coolers with healthy snacks like frozen fruits, yogurt, iced cold water and vegetable sticks, to name a few.  Summer is the perfect time to stock on delicious berries which contain lots of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are great for your health.

5. Get enough sleep.

With all the traveling and partying that you might be doing, please don’t forget and ignore sleep. You see, sleep deprivation can cause serious damage to your health so make sure you get a good quality sleep every night and resist the urge of staying up late during long summer days.  To help you get a better night’s sleep, you seek the aid of natural remedies or gadgets designed to induce zzz’s.
