5 Workout Ideas for Couples


You know what’s better than working out with a partner?  Working out with YOUR partner in life!  You know what they say, “couples who work out together, stay together.”  Just kidding…  I just made that up.  But seriously, studies have shown that people exercise longer and harder when they have company – whether it’s working out with a friend, a sibling or your special someone.

Working out as a couple is a fun and productive way to spend quality time with your significant other.  So if you are ready to ditch the calorie-loaded dinners and those long hours of just lounging on the couch watching Netflix, here are 5 workout ideas that you and your sweetie can do together.

1. Lift Weights

Who says ladies should stay away from the weight room?  You don’t need to separate ways when you are at the gym.  Lifting weights together is a good way to improve your work out.  Aside from motivation, your partner can make sure that your form is good and help you pick out the right weights for you.

2. Acroyoga

This type of yoga that involves two people doing the poses together, combines yoga and acrobatics.  The other half of the duo will be the base who has the most points of contact with the ground and the other one is the flyer, the person who is elevated off the ground by the Base.  There’s also another person involved – a spotter to make sure that everything is safe and in the right form. This is definitely a great workout to get you closer physically and emotionally, since it involves a lot of trust to your other half.

3. Badminton or Tennis

Depending on the intensity and your weight, playing badminton can make a person burn up to 500 calories in one hour and up to 600 plus when playing tennis.  You and your partner can compete against each other or play together against another couple.  It’s a fun activity that you can do with your friends and family, that will guarantee loads of calories burned.

4. Salsa

Heat things up with salsa dance lessons!  Salsa isn’t just a surefire way to get your heart rate up, it’s also a physical activity with a romantic atmosphere.  You and your other half can burn calories, learn a new skill and enjoy a fun and romantic time.  That’s hitting 3 birds in one stone.

5. Kickboxing

This is another fun activity that’s a total body workout and a way to learn new skills.  Ladies, we need to learn how to defend ourselves with those kicks, punches and jabs!  But it’s not just all fun and games, this workout can leave your muscles sore for days.

If you are not into these types of workout, you and your partner can go for a simple jog, walk or bike around the neighborhood every day.  It’s a great way to catch up, talk and bond together while burning calories at the same time.
