5 Common Illnesses that Flourish During the Fall Season

Along with the change of season from summer to fall, comes a change in our health as well.  The drop in temperature can suppress your immune system, making you more susceptible to infections.  So before you get too excited for the Halloween and holidays, here are the most common illnesses that usually happen during the fall season and how you can prepare and prevent it.

1. Common Colds and Flu

As told by Weather.com, fall and winter are the peak times for viral illnesses.  During these times, viruses are easily transmitted between people who have a weak immune system.  To protect yourself from colds and flu, load up on Vitamin C and Water and maintain a sanitized home.  Keep in mind that frequent hand washing is very important to decrease the spread of these pesky viruses.

2. Allergies

The fall season will be tough for those with Asthma and people who are allergic to mold and ragweed pollen.  For those who are at risk, you should be careful or even better, avoid raking leaves and garden cleaning because inhaling pollen, mold, dust and other particles from the air might cause an allergy and asthma attack.

3. Arthritis

Weather.com reports that people who suffer from arthritis say that cool, damp weather causes their symptoms to flare up, such as sore joints and muscular difficulties.  During the fall time, you tend to curl up in bed more than going outdoors and being active, which is likely to make the pain worse. 4. Sinusitis

Like Arthritis, nasal sinuses are most likely to inflame during the fall season due to the cold and damp weather.  To reduce the chances of Sinusitis, allergy-proof your home and use a humidifier.  But when the unfortunate event comes, a hot steamy bath, warm compresses and loads of water can help treat the sinus pain.

5. Depression

Not all of us are giddy during the cold season.  For some, shorter days and longer nights, as well as the cool temperature can trigger depression.  Seasonal Affective Disorder is a kind of depression associated to changes in season.  When extreme symptoms occur, make sure to seek medical help in order to manage your depression.  Certain medications and therapies are given depending on the severity of your depressive condition.
