Summer’s here and that means more sun exposure. As much as we love getting tanned during the summer time, we should also be aware of the effects of sun damage to our skin. Sun damage can cause premature ageing, dark spots, dry skin, wrinkles and the worst is Skin Cancer.
So here are 7 ways to protect your skin while enjoying your summer at the same time.
1. Keep exposure in moderation.
Hey, we need Mr. Sun – he is the key source of Vitamin D. However, we should remember to keep our exposure in moderation. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the sun’s rays are strongest between 10 am and 2 pm. So, try to schedule your sun tanning sessions early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
2. Wear sunscreen.
Don’t just wear any sunscreen. Make sure to get at least SPF 15 or more with “broad spectrum” protection. Apply it 15 minutes before going out in the sun. If you are hitting the beach or pool, make sure to get a water resistant sunscreen and reapply it at least every two hours.

3. Protect your eyes.
Sun exposure can also cause damage to your eyes so wear sunglasses that offer 99-100% UV protection. Note that expensive doesn’t necessarily mean better protection. Also apply eye cream to prevent wrinkles in your eye area.
4. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.
For your face, it is essential to apply moisturizer with SPF to keep your skin hydrated, protected and smooth.
5. Wear lip balm.
Yes, choose a lip balm with SPF too!
6. Dress appropriately.
If you want more skin protection, wear light colored clothes and cover as much of your body as possible. You can also wear a wide-brimmed hat to hide from Mr. Sun.
7. Keep hydrated.
Extreme exposure to the sun can cause dehydration and heat stroke so make sure to keep yourself hydrated all throughout the day. Bring a bottle of water everywhere you go and also eat plenty of fruits because it packs a lot of water too.
