Losing weight is an uphill battle. It’s not easy. It takes a lot of strength and motivation to reach your desired weight and many obstacles can get in your way. Here are a few tips to help boost your motivation levels and keep them high as you embark on your weight loss journey.
Write down the reasons why:
Why did you suddenly decide to lose weight? What made that spark go off in your mind when you woke up one morning that made you think: “That’s it, I want to lose weight”. Write it down on a post it. Post it on your fridge, your mirror, anywhere you will be able to see it every day. Read it aloud every morning to keep your motivations levels high. If you have an ideal weight in mind, be reasonable; don’t try to lose 30 pounds in one month. A normal, healthy weight loss is about 1 to 2 lbs per week. Don’t ask too much of yourself or you just won’t have enough motivation to reach that desired goal.
Reward yourself every time you hit a milestone in your weight loss plan. And keep in mind that not all rewards have to be food. You lost four pounds? Treat yourself to a massage. You lost another 2 pounds, buy yourself a book and enjoy reading it in the bathtub after your workout. If you feel like rewarding yourself isn’t working, find inspiration elsewhere. Buy a weight loss magazine and read a success story where a person lost a substantial amount of weight and kept it off. These people are not superheroes, just regular people like you and me. They just had a goal they wanted to reach and they stuck with it. If they can do it, so can you.
Reach out to other people:
You’re not the only one in the world who is trying to lose weight. Social media is used for many reasons, but the main reason it’s used for is to allow people to connect with one another. There are plenty of Facebook pages dedicated to weight loss. You can also go join discussion forums that talk about the subject too. Go online, connect with other people who are facing the same difficulties as you, and they can help you stay on track.
Feel beautiful inside and out:
What will keep you motivated? Wearing the same tired old type of outfit to work, or actually taking the time to show others that you are a beautiful person inside and out. You’re just trying to improve what’s already great, so dress fashionably. Wear clothes that look good and make you feel even better. If you have time in the morning, wear a little makeup to make your features shine. While we’re still on the topic of clothes, get rid of your fat clothes when they don’t fit you anymore. You don’t want to fit in them again someday right? So why keep them around?
Bottom line, do this for yourself:
In the end, you’re the one who wants to look good and feel even better. Don’t do this for your boyfriend, husband, parents or even your children. They can give you support of course, but ultimately, you’re the one that is going to put in the efforts and see the benefits that you will get from losing the weight, not them.
